Just posting a couple of photos from today to kill some time, as I prepare to get walloped by yet another storm and plunging temps. The winter weather in DV this season has been challenging. Climbed up the mountain guarding the entrance to Echo canyon this morning (peak 3600). Got a nice view of Rockfall peak on the way up. Still has a bit of snow up there from a storm a couple days ago. Some snow on Corkscrew. And a view of the eastern side of the Grapevine mountains. Lots of snow. RE: My extended DV stay - Daymoth - 2023-02-28 Its so pretty all snowed!!! RE: My extended DV stay - DeathValleyDazed - 2023-02-28 Really love these images. Keep on posting them please! RE: My extended DV stay - MojaveGeek - 2023-03-01 Looks like you got some nice sunshine and views of the snowy peaks before the next storm. Actually it looks like it is raining everywhere north of FC at the moment with fairly heavy snow in Daylight Pass. Yes, challenging I am sure, though at least you get a bit of respite between the storms I hope. RE: My extended DV stay - Kauri - 2023-03-01 Great photos! First time I visited Rockfall Canyon, there was snow in the shady areas on the canyon floor. I think that was around December/January 2011. I'd forgotten about that until now. RE: My extended DV stay - Brice - 2023-03-04 Beardilocks and I went to check out some more LPB (low probability bridge) locations that have been on my list for a while. The first was in a fairly drab canyon on the western slope of Tucki mountain. But it had one really nice section where I somehow managed to not flub the photo. I'm sure Beardilocks will post more about these hikes later. We struck out on two locations I wanted to check that day, and went our separate ways. The next day I hiked up to a short slot that looked interesting by satellite. It started out shallow and wasn't looking too promising, but once I got past a few dryfalls, it got nice real fast. And then I finally found a nice bridge! It's about 12 feet high and difficult to get a photo of, as most things are in a narrow space. Here's the best I could do. From underneath Back side It's not far off the beaten path and is somewhat fragile around the base, so no locations will be provided. A slightly tricky dryfall will stop most people at a spot in the canyon where it doesn't seem like there's much going on. This might be why it hasn't been documented until now (to my knowledge). Another great day in Death valley! RE: My extended DV stay - DeathValleyDazed - 2023-03-05 Wow, a surprise around every turn. Great images and the color! RE: My extended DV stay - MojaveGeek - 2023-03-05 Very nice canyon! I'm sure there's a bunch of snow on the peaks; do you have any guess as to how low it goes? RE: My extended DV stay - Brice - 2023-03-05 (2023-03-05, 07:14 AM)MojaveGeek Wrote: Very nice canyon! It varies a lot depending on location. It's also melting fast this week. Tucki had tiny patches of snow in shady spots as low as 3300 feet this week. The further north and west you go, the more snow there is. Right now I can see significant snow at 4500 ft in the Grapevine mountains. I think in the cottonwood mountains it was closer to 4000 ft where the snow line started. |
