Trellis Canyon Slick n' Slide - Close Up Study - DeathValleyDazed - 2022-03-13 March 5, 2022 tour one of Death Valley's most intriguing geological features located a mile up Trellis Canyon on the east slope of Tucki Mountain. After seeing Steve Hall's trip report of Trellis Canyon way back when I had to see it for myself. That hike was ten years ago and this hike is my third time slogging out to Trellis Canyon from Salt Creek the four or five miles over the alluvial fan and was totally worth ever step of the grind. While completing the video survey of the fantastic feature I thought about our very own GowerGulch42 and wished he could have been there for some real expertise on this fractured feature. I have another video study in production of a huge new (my guess within the past two-three years) rock fall blocking lower Trellis Canyon creating a small dam effect. This rock fall was NOT there ten years ago. Now take a view of what Steve Hall dubbed The Trellis Canyon Slick n' Slide. (Correction: Steve Hall actually named the feature "slickenside" correctly back in March of 2009 when he first hiked Trellis Canyon. I mistakenly recalled it being Slick n' Slide because I was not familiar with the geological term "slickenside." I appreciate Kauri bringing my foible fracture feature to light and correction.) RE: Trellis Canyon Slick n' Slide - Close Up Study - Kauri - 2022-03-13 Not sure if you're just being humorous or if there's some uncertainty in the name of this geologic feature but it's actually called a "slickenside" not a "slick n' slide": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slickenside RE: Trellis Canyon Slick n' Slide - Close Up Study - DAW89446 - 2022-03-13 (2022-03-13, 10:03 AM)Kauri Wrote: Not sure if you're just being humorous or if there's some uncertainty in the name of this geologic feature but it's actually called a "slickenside" not a "slick n' slide": If it were me and my clumsy butt going over the feature, it would be called a “Slip-N-Slide.” Unfortunately, at my age, even a flat cement walkway turns into one … RE: Trellis Canyon Slick n' Slide - Close Up Study - DeathValleyDazed - 2022-03-13 (2022-03-13, 10:03 AM)Kauri Wrote: Not sure if you're just being humorous or if ...Kauri, I was being humorous but not on purpose but definitely out of ignorance having never had knowledge of the geological term "slickenside." Since I can laugh at myself I gladly welcome being laughed at here in the forum when my fracture feature foible faults crack you all up. I went back and edited your correction into my original post so that folks won't think Steve Hall made the same mislabel as I did. He got it right. |
