Harry Wade Road open/closed? - scott hargis - 2022-11-09

I'm getting conflicting and ambiguous information from NPS sites about the south end of Harry Wade --- I'm hoping to get in fom 127 and go north as far as the Owlsheads Rd, maybe a mile or 2 further (but not as far as the Amargosa crossing).

Does anyone know if this is SUV-possible now?

NPS shows it is closed – https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/conditions.htm

When in doubt, call the DVNP ranger station – 760-786-3200

Thanks, mate. I called NPS and they thought it would be fine -- and I wouldn't actually be breaking any regulations by trying ("road closed" doesn't mean "illegal" lol). Sounds like it's a total washout at the Amargosa crossing but otherwise the road should be OK.

Thanks for reporting back on what they said. Sounds like a perfect time to visit that area, actually ... hope you have a great adventure.

Two weeks plus ago the park told us that we could get to Saratoga Springs from 127 but we didn't as they were just starting grading and warned of deep sand beyond. Hopefuly things are better now!

That road has always had deep sand. I know, as I got stuck in the sand back in 2015.
