Pluto's Salt Pool Then And Now - DeathValleyDazed - 2023-02-14

I've heard of Salt Pools in the vicinity of Badwater and Devil's Golf Course but have yet to discover them personally. I also have no recall of the pool being named Pluto's. Maybe if I wear slacks, a long sleeve business shirt and a tie I'll have better luck way out there? Here's what it looked like in 1939:

And lately 2022-23 by another DEVA explorer, Desert Rambler:

Beardilocks, you nailed it down again, as usual. Thanks for the historical scoop!

New book I just picked up. I love it. 500 Death Valley Place Names and Their Origins.

I’ll admit I’m confused about Pacific Borax Co probably naming it in … 1832? Isn’t that kinda early?

It appears that the book is only off by one hundred years because The Pacific Borax Company was not founded until 1890. My hunch is that the company named the salt pool in 1932 three years prior to the 1935 base map publication by the NPS of the area as mentioned in the book. A book with that much trivia and details is bound to have a few errors in the contents?

That vintage video of the Pluto Salt Pools was most likely filmed in 1938 or 1939 on a family excursion possibly with the Southern California Automobile Club.
