York Fire Aug 1, 2023 - John Morrow - 2023-08-02 Really saddened to see more precious Joshua Tree forests destroyed by unnaturally hot fire carried by invasive ground vegetation. Caruthers Canyon and Castle Peaks and the J-Trees of Lanfair Valley appear to be in the path. https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident-maps-gallery/camnp-2023-york-fire# RE: York Fire Aug 1, 2023 - GowerGulch42 - 2023-08-02 As well as a number of historic mine camps I've had on my to-visit list for many years RE: York Fire Aug 1, 2023 - MojaveGeek - 2023-08-02 Yes, this is a tough fire to witness, you don't think of the open desert as a place where fires occur. Interestingly there haven't been big fires in the CA forests this year. I hope it stays that way if only for the selfish reason that I'll be in the Eastern Sierra starting late next week and I cherish the clear skies, in the years when I get them. There's much in the Mojave Preserve that I still need to see if it is not horribly burned. |
