The FB reports I was reading from “influencers” who claimed the lake dried up over night had me in hysterics. These ppl.

I’m very glad NPS decided to ban boats. It was getting a bit nuts, I swear half the cars in FC had something on the roof. Bonus points tho to anyone in a unicorn inflatable pool toy.

I’m interested to see what happens now after the wind lets off and things settle a bit. No real precip forecast for the foreseeable future.

Must have been damned windy though, to push all that water away. It was getting an insane amount of coverage in mainstream media, even over here on the east coast. Sort of a craze

Winds were clocked in Winnemucca as high as 54 mph. I got taken off guard when I came around the corner of the house and got knocked over. I got a chuckle when I saw a plastic bottle pass a car on the paved road that runs behind my property, the speed limit is 45 mph. We got snow out here, but nowhere as much as even Reno.

I saw one of those posts about the lake being gone and knew that couldn't possibly be true, but it sure looked like it from the pictures she posted.

Really glad I got out there early (November 1) now!  I was hoping to get one more chance later this month.  Strange thing about the ban is the boating itself isn't the issue--it's what people are doing to get the boat to the water.  Mine is inflatable, so I just carried it to the water.  No dragging--just walking, which is still allowed.

See attached satellite shots of how the lake was blown north and flowed back south.

Glad my son got a chance to "sail" the lake while it was still allowed, and access was easy from already existing pathways.

I can confirm, as I was there, that it was damned windy.
