Emigrant Canyon Road Explore - VintageDUG - 2024-11-29 Headed out Monday to hang around Emigrant Canyon Road for 3-4 days. Taking the luxury micro camper to Wildrose Campground as a base. I have 15 sites pinned, most are hikes, but one or two I can just drive to. Checked the weather and it looks okay, checked roads/campgrounds and see that Wildrose Campground and Emigrant Canyon Road are scheduled to close "Late Nov" until April. Called the ranger station since this really feels like late Nov. They say there have been no updates but there's a planning meeting on Tuesday. I doubt they can have a meeting and start work right away, so I'm gonna roll the dice. Especially since they want to close it until April which is probably July in government speak. Gonna check out some old mines, old cabins, maybe an old wagon, and a mystery site I can see on Google Earth but can't ID. I guess I'll hike over and see exactly what it is. RE: Emigrant Canyon Road Explore - MojaveGeek - 2024-11-29 I don't know the wagon, but I did find some sections of the original pipeline. And few if any footprints. The pipeline is interesting, but I like machines, cabins, etc. I've only heard rumor of the wagon, but I can see old cars, trucks, cabins and such scattered about where most folks don't go. Hopefully I'll find some of it. I'm about 1/2 way through my list of targets for the area, I hope to get most of the way complete in 3-4 days. I'm not the hiker I once was. RE: Emigrant Canyon Road Explore - DAW89446 - 2024-11-30 The wagon is there and visible on GE. A friend hiked to it early this year. Lots of ruins very old and more modern on the way. If you would like to read his story and see the photos, I can send a link. You certainly got my attention! RE: Emigrant Canyon Road Explore - DAW89446 - 2024-11-30 Explorations with the Ski3pins: Death Valley – April 2023 – Part Three Starts part way down. I'm the Sagebrush Reconnoiterer mentioned. Time is slipping by. Thanks for the link, I read that not long after they published it. I found them when I was researching a mill site right down the road that his uncle, once removed, used to own. RE: Emigrant Canyon Road Explore - MojaveGeek - 2024-11-30 Cool, Mr. Sagebrush! Thanks! |
