Happy Thanksgiving, y’all ... KOLO 8 News

DEATH VALLEY, Calif. (KOLO) – A tractor-trailer hauling 44,000 pounds of dried chickpeas burned up in Death Valley National Park on Nov. 21, the National Park Service said Friday.

The Park Service learned of the incident about 5:30 a.m. The tractor-trailer descended Daylight Pass and Mud Canyon Road, which is closed to truck traffic. Its brakes overheated. The trucker pulled over after reaching flat terrain on California 190.

“When a commercial truck has a wreck or catches on fire, we worry about what it will release into the park,” Park Superintendent Mike Reynolds said in a statement. “However, there’s very little chance that stray chickpeas not cleaned up will become invasive species in the driest place in North America.”

Two Star Towing removed the wreckage and cleaned up the remaining dried chickpeas.
