Ah yes, that lovely, pointy desert limestone! 
For a few years now, I've been wearing some fingerless sun gloves I buy from Bass Pro Shops. The brand is "World Wide Sportsman" and they're in the fly fishing department. The palm and bottom side of the fingers are "leather." Which, among other things, is helpful with the scrambling.
