I celebrated Halloween by hiking from Chris Wicht to Panamint City under a full moon, sleeping over and then early morning ascending to Sentinel Peak, returning to Panamint City to rest up and then exiting Surprise Canyon in the dark. I heard frogs croaking in the canyon on the way up and actually saw one with my flashlight as I exited. That stream is a lovely contrast to the surrounding desert.
I was lucky to time this hike after the California fires had stopped and the air cleared. There was hardly a breeze on the summit. I was surprised how steep the ascent was because looking at the peak from the Panamint Valley it appears like a round hill top.
