Wow DAW89446 and TacoLand, you solved this puzzle with your refined DEVA Detective skills. If there was a medal for this I'd bestow one of the both of you. Great teamwork. I was guessing wrong that the location was along the old backroad from Darwin to Panamint Springs Resort but you two nailed it. I suppose the image could have been taken after 1960 but it's most likely taken in 1960 to match the model year of the Impala. Here's a composite image of your findings with the unmistakable background highlighted. The elevations and angles are not exact but close enough. Thank you!
