Beatty seems to be suffering from an identity crisis. I’ve seen it all before: many high minded fingers in the small pie that is Beatty. Each wants to make the town fit their own interpretation of what their town should be and have enough power and money to make it so. After a period of time, they die or loose interest and what they created rots away. Or only progresses so far and runs out of money or momentum.
Yet over the decades, Beatty has remained much the same - a mix of old and new; run down and and kept up. Each mining boom has brought some new building, some turned into a business or home.
Yeah, get rid of the palm trees. The desert of Beatty is too cold and with occasional snow. Snow and palm trees don’t mix.
Beatty is not an incorporated city. It is governed by Nye County. It would surprise me if Pahrump wrangles the county seat away from Tonopah in time.
I’m not keen on the Lemoigne plaque. The painted letters will fade and disappear in a short time. Unless cared for annually it will just become a tacky, historically disjointed add on.
