Thanks Jes. There have been plenty of times when I've walked in on a "closed" road, but this sounds a bit more catastrophic. There are several vestigial roads in there, so I guess I'd make some waypoints based on the satellite images and just wander.
DVD, last time I was there a ranger said that all the pupfish you see around the picnic area are doomed anyway, as the creek dries up The survivors live in some of the deeper pools upstream. I really like that area, with the pools reflecting Tucki mountain, long reeds, and usually ducks of some form - would like to walk through that area if I can access it.
