DV to AZ 2022 winter trip

Well the end is almost here.

We left the mudflats and went to the China Ranch date farm to get breakfast. Just getting out of the car and this amazing smell hit us in the face. Intoxicating perfume of creosote, dates and I dont know what else. And the songs of a hundred birds chirping about. Just amazing.

In my hunger I got a bunch of bread and muffins and two shakes.

You people did not warn me about how big the shakes were. The coffee and dates shake was something out if this world.

We went to check out the trail near the ranch that follows the Amargosa and it was really lovely and intriguing. 

Colorful hills, badlands, mines, the Tecopa railroad tracks, old cars and mining cabins.

The mud made it all a bit difficult but it was cool to see all the animal tracks. Birds, coyote, bobcat... Lots of weird plants also. Desert reeds and mistletoe.








There is a slot canyon but the Amargosa had decided it after the rain that it did not like the bridge so there is that. Not wanting to test how deep in mud we would drop if we tried to wade it we turned around. Rain was not in the forecast but we could see it approaching.














We went back, got some more food at the ranch just as the storm started and we decided to start making it back home.

Going home sucked. Husband developed complications from our flu/covid and we ended up in the ER. He is almost fine now. We missed 2 atmospheric rivers while in Arizona but got hit by another 3 or 4 and could not do anyththing other than stay home. At least we didnt get flooded.

Plus I had to work, bleh.

I just want to get out there again.
