Rabies is still a miserable experience regardless, and requires multiple shots. You can get vaccinated (requires 3 shots spread over several weeks). Even then, you will need another shot if you're bitten by by a rabid animal. If you're not vaccinated, then you need multiple shots after being bitten. And the time window for getting them is fairly short.
