I don't think back country access is high on their priorities. Agree about 267 - silly to assume the only reason someone goes in there is to get to Scotty's. Yes it took forever, well into the spring, before the North road opened last year. But I suspect they don't want to have to go into the north part of the park if they can't drive pavement to get up there. Is that ranger station / residence ever staffed?
I can appreciate the law enforcement issues but they are pretty slack on that. Last year there was someone pulled about 50 yards off road in a camper van near the toilets at the Beatty Rd. I called it in, via 911. 20 minutes or so later, friends drove by, and called it on, using the number shown in the park newsletter (better not to bother 911 if possible). Neither of us saw any evidence of response, even though it is only 10 mins from the SPW ranger station.
