I was just looking at this the other day. I'm mixed between hoping it stays closed or open. Lol. It's kinda nice when you have the time and can have Trail/Hanuapah mostly to yourself coming from the south. But Trail Canyon is also one of the last non-permited camping spots in the main part of the valley and it was nice to swing into late after a long day.
I am not thinking it will be this year. They have dates on most everything else, even if they're in 2026. Of course they could have not projected a date because it's sooner rather than later. Best bet is to call in and see what they say. It can take a few tries to get someone or leave a message and they'll call you back.
I was kind of under the impression last year that the road was GONE gone across the salt flat there and they needed to re-establish the road bed/base entirely. Which could mean an environmental study was required etc etc. And/or they're going to rebuild it with flood controls that might require more study/paperwork.
