Once open, you would have access from Beatty NV into the park. The North Highway leading from Mud Canyon Road towards Scotty's Castle and Ubehebe Crater has no estimated opening date. Does anyone have any information as to when the North Highway might open. Even guesses based on previous experience are welcome.

I want to visit the park next February or March, but the North Highway needs to be open to access canyons on the west side of the Grapevines.

Thank you.

I heard rumor that the North Highway is aimed to reopen in January.

Park has changed dates now for Daylight Pass to late October. We enter and exit that way and arrive 10/20 and leave 10/29. It is an extra thirty minutes to have to go down 95 to DVJ and enter via 190.

And the park has informed me that the rest of Badwater Road/178 will be open "sometime" in November.

Wouldn't surprise me if they're hedging their bets in case there are more severe storms, or also providing extended re-opening schedules so that they have enough buffer time to deal with unexpected problems.

Welcome to my life ....

All that said, recently did a week-long trip to Utah (Capitol Reef / Canyonlands) in my new truck and starting to look at a week-long trip to DVNP at the end of the year. Hopeful that backcountry roads will still be in bad shape to keep the (other) tourists out.

I’m planning on being there for most of Dec/Jan at the least. Currently enjoying the San Raf Swell.

It’ll be interesting to see what’s open, what back country roads are “hard-closed” (either temp or perm basis) and what has changed about the back country canyons and landscapes. I’m excited about what some of my favorite canyons might look like now. But also concerned about which parts of the park might be inaccessible.

I’m all about getting out of the truck and hiking. But access is limited as it is in this vast wonderland.

Some roads, like 190 are being opened. At the same time others are being closed.
The road network around Chloride City was marked off as closed today. Definitely throwing a wrench into my plans.
