What Is This And Where Is This?
#1
By luck I stumbled upon this fascinating "piece of history" and wonder if anyone here may have done the same? The image is split with first, the west face showing and secondly, the east face showing. A clue is found in the second image.

This historical CCC site is located about a third of a mile north of Cow Creek NPS Village just off of Highway 190 on the east side.

Is that an empty shell, or is someone at home? Was that in or near the park? I've never seen on in the park. Only seen two in my life actually.

Empty shell in the Owlshead Mountains. Speaking of breaking DVNP rules, all four of us wanted to take it home.

Not sure whether or not this checks the box of always having wanted to see a desert tortoise.

How lucky of a find. I've never seen a desert tortoise in DEVA but as a kid enjoyed them in the foothills in San Bernardino County, CA. Glad you left the shell behind. I've come across five full bighorn sheep racks in DEVA and leave them where they lay as well. The only time I've seen a scorpion is on the sidewalk at The Inn at Death Valley. Come to think of it, I've not seen a roadrunner at Furnace Creek or around the Visitors Center for two years now.

I was going to guess the site of Wildrose Station, from the rocks in the background that looks like the foundation.

I’ve seen several tortoises in the general vicinity of the valley. I removed one from the Trona-Wildrose Road north of Trona in the vicinity of the Homewood Canyon road on my commute home to Big Pine from work in Trona. I also have photos of one I came across on the old Southern Pacific Lone Pine Branch in Rademacher Canyon near the turnoff to Ridgecrest from US395 (I was taking photos of the removal of ties and rails in the late 1990s). I’ve seen others, but so long ago I forget details.

Hints: The car is a brand new Chevy Impala which if you can figure out what model year you'll know approximately when the image was taken.
Disclaimer: I can't figure out the location so I'm relying on you DEVA Detectives for results!
Notes: I was so intrigued by this vintage image that I purchased it online from Photovault for twelve bucks.
Impressions: This dude is either brave or dumb or both for driving his new Chevy over this road. I wonder if the image was taken as part of an ad campaign because it appears professionally composed?

Dang city slickers. That road is practically paved.

Snow is usually a telltale sign in Death Valley ... quick guess without going down the rabbit hole is the range that dominates the skyline is Panamint and you've got Inyo way in the background with snow. Looks like a valley in-between where that photo is taken and what I believe to be the Panamint, so I'm going to say ....

Dantes View-ish.

What does everyone else think?
