The road network around Chloride City was marked off as closed today. Definitely throwing a wrench into my plans.

Where was the closure? Right at the pavement by Daylight Pass?

I think he means it is marked as closed on the park website map (just happened in the past few days, on 10/13 I think). Daylight pass itself is closed right now so not really possible for anyone to see anything marked or not at daylight pass. The website tells folks not to drive on back roads that are listed as closed because in many cases the road bed was washed away and they don't want people creating new use before they can get out to blade the correct route. Not sure that necessarily applies to the Chloride closure specifically.

At the moment the Chloride area closure is only show on the interactive park map, they don't have it on their list of closed back country roads. There is a little bit of inconsistency between the map and the list.

Any thoughts on when the west side road and the north side highway will open?

According to an email communication with the park their crews are currently focusing on the southern end of Badwater so that will likely open before North Highway. They don’t have any sort of schedule but said they expect it to still be weeks before it opens.

On the plan your visit page, the park service used to say that Mud Canyon and the North Highway would not be open before December. Now it says Not likely to be open before mid-January.  So, the timeline has slipped. We are arriving on March 21. No more delays!

I thought you were off in Chad or some place like that.  Been and back, and still alive?

Here's hoping that your plane does not get stuck in the sand on that runway?  Smile
