I've been working on extricating myself from a tricky (professional) situation. Hopefully once that's resolved I can get back to spending more time camping and working on my truck. Also just finishing up details for a sixteen-day trip back to Japan this autumn ... so, yeah, still kicking.

Looks like we're going to revisit Tokyo & Kyoto, and check out Sapporo for the first time ever. Visiting mostly to just wander around and eat good food. Japan really blew me away the first time I visited in 2019 and I can't wait to do it all over again.

It's also been over a decade since I last visited New York so fingers crossed I can do that sometime in early 2024.

And in-between, tons of camping throughout Nevada & Oregon if everything in my professional life would please just calm the heck down.

Finishing up my Masters project, catching up on some other earthquake research around Oregon, and finishing up a different project from Oklahoma as well. Busy summer coming for Oregon geology research!

(My MS is on the Strawberry Fault, a newly discovered active fault in Eastern Oregon's Strawberry Mountains. Two earthquakes since the Last Glacial maximum ~21 thousand years ago, most recent CE 672-857. I'm involved with other seismic hazard projects on the Mount Hood Fault Zone and the Meers Fault in Oklahoma.)

I wonder where they are...

Bagging peaks, trying not to die from heat stroke.

Went up Whitney in mid-July.  The middle third of the trail was still under lots of snow.  Here's a full resolution photo of the main climb.

You can zoom in to see a line of late-start climbers making their way up.  The switchbacks that would normally be used are on the left, still mostly covered in snow.  The photo was taken from Mount Muir, a sub-peak of Whitney that I climbed on the way back for extra credit.

Currently in the Idaho panhandle, searching for cool weather which continues to evade me.  Making plans to climb Gannett (Wyoming high point) in late August.  I'm excited for that one.

That is most excellent. Feel free to share more about your travels over here at any time. Only the insane & suicidal are in DV right now.

I'm just back from 2 1/2 weeks in lovely Montana, based out of Bozeman. Some nice wild peaks, some pretty canyons, tons of flowers, exhausted from serious (by my standards) hiking every day. Late next week it's back out west to hit up the Eastern Sierra, will be based out of June Lake.
