The walk around Panum Crater is also nice. We went both into the "plug" at the center of the trail, and also walked around the Rim Trail, which gets nice views over Mono Lake.
In the area, people like to hike into Parker Lake off the north side of the June Lake Loop, but I have not been
Reversed Peak, in the town of June Lake itself, is a nice little peak if the weather is bad in the mountains. I can PM or email you a GPS track of you'd like. 5 mi round trip, 1500 or so feet, maybe less, climb

Ever been to the "Cal highways" BM called Grant off the Parker Bench trail out of the Rush Creek TH? It is nice up there but our lunch got interrupted by thunder coming down Carson toward Reversed.

I've been to Parker Bench numerous times, but not aware of the benchmark.
I used to backpack occasionally up into the lakes (Gem, Alger, etc), once over the summit to Thousand Island and Garnet.

Very nice pix, DAW! I see you took good advantage of the location. I gather Thousand Island Lake is a very popular destination now - people complain of crowds and difficulty finding a camp spot. I've seen it only from a distance because I've just done day hikes. The high country back in there is so damned beautiful!
The Grant BM is a touch off trail. Well there is a faded two track through the sagebrush that diverges from the well maintained Parker Bench trail, curls around the edge of a small forest up there, and then you just head up to the peak. The peak is prominent from the June Lakes Loop road, North side, because it is all cliffy on the sides toward the road.
You did well to live there for a while!

Back in those days, the road to Parker Bench wasn't maintained that I recall. There were several two tracks that explored the bench and the rim overlooking Grant Lake. I've even driven the road that ends at 37°48'29.83"N 119° 7'54.00"W, for a gorgeous look at Silver Lake and Carson Peak. I don't have any surviving photos of that, though. I always shot 35mm Kodachrome 64 slide film in those years.

I'm pretty sure I saw that two-track take off from the road to the Parker Lake Trailhead. Looked like it'd have some amazing views, but I wasn't sure I should attempt it since we had my RAV4 this trip and it probably gets pretty gnarly further up?

I don't recall the particulars. Looking at GE it appears to be overgrown in spots. After all it was +/- 40 years ago I lived there. I had a 1970 Ford F-250 4x4 pickup back then; 4-speed with a granny low with low range would go just about anywhere.

Its one of the first backpacking trips i ever did and I really want to go back but the crowds just put me off. Pitty. Its such a nice area.
