Good idea but only when the right conditions prevail. Here's what I expect to happen when my holy ashes are tossed off of Dante's View:

I experienced much the same when I scattered my father's ashes in 2020. There was just a light breeze, and I scattered them downwind. I just didn't take into consideration the ash blowing back at me due to the low pressure directly in front of me due to my blocking the breeze.

If you could have your ashes spread anywhere in the Park, where would it be?

Without putting too much thought into it it'd probably be a toss-up between Sand Canyon or the Hidden Dunes for me ..... or maybe the fancy pool at The Inn (I've never been!).

Super curious to hear what other people might say & why.

No one is going to mention the Big Lebowski here? Hahahaha.

If you asked me where I wanted my ashes scattered I would definitely say DV. But where in DV? I never got that far. There's so many amazing places that I love. And many of them would be completely inappropriate (like my favorite Native American petroglyph sites).

Maybe over the Ranch just to cause those price-gougers some grief? Lol.

I do remember finding an Urn hidden in a small alcove in Upper Willow canyon a few years back. At least I think it was there. It was before that couple fell off the 75ft dryfall there a few years ago so I know it wasn't from them (the guy died the girl was eventually rescued). Found it odd.

I'd want mine scattered from the top of Eureka Dunes within sight of the beautiful strata of the Last Chance Range.
But in truth, I'd leave it to my surviving loved ones to decide.
We scattered both my parents' ashes on a beach we love and frequently visit on Martha's Vineyard. They had never been; it was our place. And yes the wind blew the ashes back into young Ben's face who was having a blast "throwing grandpa to the waves". My older daughter was there too. It was hardly solemn, but it was meaningful.

For me, scatter some at the head of Phinney Canyon overlooking both DV and Sarcobatus Flat. Another little bit at Limekiln Spring in lower Surprise Canyon. Maybe some more atop Chloride Cliff. But, maybe my wife just might dump mine down the toilet ...   Shy

Why only one place? The brother of a friend of mine died, and they took part of his ashes to six different spots from his life. Oh, and had a shot of liquor at each location. Except for my friend who was the designated driver (good thing they had one).

I'm partial to Texas Springs and Wildrose.

Deadman pass, obviously.

But if you dumped yourself on the eastern side of Last chance mountain summit at the far north of the park eventually you'd be distributed across all 90 miles from there to Badwater basin.

I think my problem is that I’ve spent my whole time in DV trying to see how much of it I could explore and see. So leaving my ashes in a part of the park I’ve been just feels… anticlimactic.

Screw it: put me in the cave with mummy giants.

I want my ashes spread over Stripped Butte Valley via a small 50/60s era airplane. Ideally, they would be tossed out of a door-less plane as it buzzes Russell's. That valley is my go-to for taking friends and family on 1-5 day trips and it was a cool story from Emmett's book.

A small portion of my best friend's ashes may or may not have been spread at the overlook above Stripped Butte Valley.
