I hope to complete more of these in the years to come. Most of the Star Wars scene overlays in the park have been well documented so I'm focussing on the more trivial ones, that is if you consider Marilyn Monroe trivial.  Huh

Here are a few I had fun with while resting up from perpetual hiking. I'm open to suggestions and vintage images that you seek an overlay for. And maybe one of you can solve the mystery of the old car driving upstream in Twenty Mule Team Canyon? The photo is mislabeled "Corkscrew Canyon. I know because I spent about two hours hiking all over the area without being able to nail down the exact location, altitude, angle, and lighting. It was frustrating but fun. I may try again in the spring. BTW, the road was completely washed away in the lower half of 20 Mule Team and was closed off. I've never seen it washed out so severely. That late Tuesday evening rain deluge must have been a doozie!

I really liked the before and after concept. It's always interesting to me to see historical photos then and now. Took the opportunity to check out all your videos of your recent trip since most of the places you visited are places we have been too.
I find it quite fun to take historical images with me to historic places and try to put myself in the same spot as the photographer for a then/now comparison. However, it’s not easy. One challenge is camera optics then and now, which can often change how the image looks, or to capture the same viewpoint. Capturing with today’s cameras might capture the foreground or focal point you want, but remove much of the background.

I’ve often tried to duplicate the 1905 Skidoo image looking down onto town from a high point west of town. I’ve come close, but no cigar. It’s also amazing how much Skidoo’s street grid has disappeared in the 40 years from my first attempt to my last in 2002. I imagine that it’s far fainter now.
I visited Death Valley December 2021 for ten days. Only upon returning did I learn about the existence of Breakfast Canyon even though I had hiked it twice before while generally exploring the area between Golden Canyon and The Inn At Death Valley. I came across this vintage painting on an NPS website and pasted an image I happened to snap during my Dec 2021 trip. My image does not match the same camera/view location of the artist but it's the only image I have that is even close. I had to crop out some man made structures so that's why it appears to be too closeup. If I had know of this colorful painting ahead of time I could have matched up the views perfectly. Oh well, maybe next time.
