I presume that is silt, suggesting there was some flow out into the basin from the storms at the beginning of the month?
Wasn’t some sort of microorganism or algae growing on the crust discussed somewhere here recently, discoloring the valley floor temporarily before it turns white again?

Reminds me of when the snow turns pink in the Sierra ... turns out it's algae and not watermelon-flavored. Sad face.
