Mushroom Rock or Cauliflower Rock also known as The Devil's Throne is "wearing thin" due to natural and man made erosion. How much longer will it remain standing?
I had read somewhere previously that it used to signed with a bigger pullout for parking, but people kept chipping off “souvenirs” and NPS took down the sign and removed the lot. Wish I could remember where I read that….

That's true! It's marked on old maps, and there was a sign simply stating "Mushroom Rock" when I was a kid. Not much left of it these days.
Wow, it was so big and glorious
I wish I'd have found this old movie from the 1940s from which I snagged this screen shot before I completed and uploaded the video to YouTube. The image shows the Mushroom Rock sign and a view peering southwest through the base holes with Telescope Peak in the background. One can see how over half the rock is now missing. Sad.

I’m glad to see that it’s still standing, though obviously not for long. Frankly, it has been my understanding that it collapsed or toppled years ago. Glad it isn’t. I’ve been by it several times in the past 25 years or so, but it’s always been after dark. Like others here, i’ve visited it a few times in my youth.
