Panamint Spring Resort - Thanksgiving 2020 - David_Bricker - 2020-11-15 I am posting this for PSR. We want to keep the Thanksgiving tradition alive, while being sure that we keep safe the family, staff and guests. As many of you may know, Panamint Springs Resort has, for several decades, provided a free-will offering Thanksgiving feast. This has been very well received by local, regulars and visitors. The quality of the food has resulted in serving over 400 people each year for the past several years. The camaraderie shared among everyone made it a delight to be able to provide this to the community. With the pandemic this year, and significantly reduced business at PSR, much thought has been given as to whether the Thanksgiving event should happen. It is costly to put on, as the donations do not cover the food, let alone the staffing costs, but it is also a great way for PSR to show their thanks to their customers. The decision has been made to continue the tradition that the Cassell family has kept alive for the past 14 years. Obviously, there will be changes necessary to maintain customer and family/staff safety, but PSR still wants to say “Thank You” for your business. This is also a way for those attending to help save PSR from the ravages of Covid. Since it is expected to have a dramatically different turnout this year, PSR would like to try and gauge how many folks do plan to show up. To that end, an email address has been set up for you to “RSVP”. This is not mandatory, but it will help give an idea of how many people to plan for. The email address is: PSRThanks2020@hotmail.com If you could please drop an email to the above address advising on whether or not you will be attending, as well as the number of people, it would be most appreciated. PSR wants to be sure to have enough food for everyone, but it would be very painful to have too much leftover, considering the current reduction in customer traffic. Please note that the above email address is only for RSVP. Any questions regarding accommodations or other questions should be directed to the “Contact Us” pages at www.panamintsprings.com. Panamint Springs appreciates your time, your past patronage, and hope to see you in the future. The menu this year will be slightly simplified, but still will be a great traditional Thanksgiving feast. The layout for the guests will be different, to ensure proper distancing. The big tent is up, and there will be seating, with only a few chairs per tables. I expect that we may not be serving dinner as late as usual. As more things get firmed up, I will post updates here. You can also post your RSVPs here, and I will log them as appropriate. David Bricker / SYR RE: Panamint Spring Resort - Thanksgiving 2020 - SilverBob - 2020-11-16 Thanks, David! That's the best news we've heard in months! Please mark Michelle and me down as "very likely to attend". RE: Panamint Spring Resort - Thanksgiving 2020 - Candace66 - 2020-11-17 Thanks for the info. Hmm, I'll have to think about this. I sat home last Thanksgiving because of the bad weather. By this point I'd pretty much resigned myself to not having Thanksgiving this year either. TBH, I'm surprised they're doing it. But you did a great job of explaining why they are doing it! RE: Panamint Spring Resort - Thanksgiving 2020 - David_Bricker - 2020-11-28 Well, Thanksgiving dinner went off quite smoothly. We served a total of 163 guests. That's a far cry from our usual numbers, but it was to be expected. Dinner menu, while simplified, was very good. We had turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, sautéed veggie medley, and apple coleslaw. We also has a vegetarian option of vegetable biryani, which I made. It came out surprisingly good, and was appreciated by our vegetarian guests. The flow of people while fewer, was more consistent throughout the day. This allowed for good distancing. Everyone I greeted had their masks on, and while there was no indoor seating, there was plenty of room under the tent. It was good to see Silver Bob and Michelle, Wild Bill and Barb , and Desert Mouse. With a significantly reduced staff, and fewer family members to help prepare and serve, it was 2 very long days on Tuesday and Wednesday of preparation, but we still opened with 10 minutes of our target time of noon. We served our last dinner at 8:00pm.
