I seem to remember Radiator Water stops along Scotty's Castle Road way back when but this 1941 video by Thomas Elliott on his way to Augereberry Point shows another location. The dog seems to be admiring Tetracoccus Ridge from the overlook point?

They used to be everywhere. I remember them on CA190 over Towne’s Pass, on the Trona-Wildrose road, Daylight Pass, etcetera.

There is a defunct guzzler way up in Dolomite Canyon.  Finding it was a saga starting with a  hard copy topo map in Cambridge, MA, with a penciled in label "WATER", not finding the "WATER" (thought it must be a spring) in a day hike, , a few white pixels in a shot from on the way to Towne Peak, a reconnaissance hike with GPS and camera by a former forum member, taking sight lines on the photos to the western horizon to decipher the map error, and eventually getting there on a long hike.

From the ridge, it looked like one of those water tanks.  I think it was, or of similar vintage.  An upstream dam used to funnel runoff down pipes into the tank, from which a float valve led to a basin that would have been an easy reach for sheep.  Some water in the tank, float valve stuck closed.

But, yes, those roadside tanks were there for at least part of the 90s

I remember seeing the one by Townes Pass I think in the early 2000's, if not later.

Hmm interesting. There's an old barrel on the side of the road near the harry wade / owl springs road junction.  I wonder if that's one of these.  I'll have to take a look next time I drive by it.
