Need Info On South Park Canyon - VintageDUG - 2024-10-18 I have two trips coming up that will pass through South Park Canyon. I've heard that after Hillary the route above Chicken Rock is pretty hairy. Some say it isn't possible, some say it's iffy but doable. Both trips are planned to go up South Park and then down Pleasant as a loop. The first trip we mainly need to get to the overlook above Madeline's old cabin before you turn and run the ridge toward Rita's. If South Park conditions don't allow, we can take the long way up Pleasant and across. We are going there to honor a dear friend we lost to cancer. The second trip is part of a five day outting and I hope to run the loop and stay at one of the three cabins in South Park/Pleasant. It could also be modified if needed. Would appreciate any recent, current info. Rolling solo rig each trip. 2018 Jeep JLU Rubicon, mostly stock. Thanks. RE: Need Info On South Park Canyon - AlanMcR - 2024-10-18 I don't know the answer to your question but would very much like an update on conditions and/or a trip report. RE: Need Info On South Park Canyon - Brice - 2024-10-20 I was planning to go up there last winter for some peakbagging but wasn't able to fit it into my schedule. During my research I found a trail report (which I can no longer find) which said the loop was fine with one exception. The the lower section of pleasant canyon has been cut deeply by water runoff and you have to take the high ridge bypass to get around it. I wasn't ever going to do the loop though. No way I would do south park canyon solo. Here's a video from perhaps 6 months ago which contains some driving footage. You might find it useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDH31BqbhM0 |
