Very nice pix, DAW! I see you took good advantage of the location. I gather Thousand Island Lake is a very popular destination now - people complain of crowds and difficulty finding a camp spot. I've seen it only from a distance because I've just done day hikes. The high country back in there is so damned beautiful!
The Grant BM is a touch off trail. Well there is a faded two track through the sagebrush that diverges from the well maintained Parker Bench trail, curls around the edge of a small forest up there, and then you just head up to the peak. The peak is prominent from the June Lakes Loop road, North side, because it is all cliffy on the sides toward the road.
You did well to live there for a while!
