Upon returning late in the day the Jeep had been "smashed and grabbed" with shattered glass covering the interior.

We had a similar experience some years ago when parked for Corkscrew Peak.  A side window was smashed out.  The thieves stole a tire gauge from the glovebox and some bottled water from a cooler.  An Inyo County deputy left his card inside with a message on the back to call him if any assistance was needed.  A used tire store in Beatty let us use their shop vac to clear out the broken glass.  I gave the guy $20.  The insurance company told us that Safelite in Vegas had the glass in stock.  We got it replaced the next day.  I was amazed because the vehicle was an Eagle Summit, an obscure brand made by Mitsubishi and sold by Chrysler.
