Great vintage image that I have just copied to carry with me the next time I'm up Surprise Canyon so I can find the same location and take an overlay image from the present for comparison. I've saved many vintage images from around the park to complete the same overlay process I hope of making a fun video-film roll of these images.
BTW - Both of my times to Panamint City were way too rushed so next time I'd like spending several days exploring the side canyons and mine works.
I think it was taken near the top of the falls. I believe that hill in the background is the one that the road climbs and angles across the base to Limekiln Springs. At this point I’m going on memory here, as I don’t think I have any surviving images. Over the past couple of decades I’ve scanned then tossed a lot of hard copy photos of mine, but also tossed a lot of them without scanning.
There is a note on the image indicating somebody thinks the photo was taken in Titus Canyon. But in the areas that road is narrow, the walls are sheer and considerably higher. And note the water running in the gravel. There’s no water running down the Titus Canyon road in such quantities. The water nearly always runs in Surprise.
