Usually the DV and Saline related forums get slow in the hot months. Hopefully the forum will heat up in the fall as the desert cools down.

Yesterday's high in DV was 122.  It's dead all right.

I wonder what a thermometer stuck a few inches into the salt flat would record?

If y'all get really bored I've got a few years worth of DV trip reports that anyone is more than welcome to finish for me. Confused

Big Grin Yup. I've been around the forums for more than two decades. Overall, I feel that they are experiencing their own drought conditions. I blame it on original members aging out and Facebook.

r/DeathValleyNP has 1.7K subscribers so Reddit could be added to geriatric gerrymandering and FaceBook. BTW I love our forum here and hope it continues until I "age out." Since I'm much older than netllama my odds are good.  Smile

OK, I give up, what hair dye product do you use to cover all that "gray hair" evidence of aging?  Wink

The hiker is thought to have set off on Sunday or Monday in 118 degrees Fahrenheit heat with
up to 91 percent humidity due to scattered showers. To give readers some idea of how “hot”
that combination of extreme hot temperature and very high humidity “feels,” according to the
National Weather Service Heat Index Calculator, it is the equivalent to the body feeling the
temperature of 320˚F (160.4˚C).

(Copy-and-paste of my reply to this on PanamintValley.com):

The heat index calculator is here: https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/html/heatindex.shtml

There's a caveat on that page: "Please note: The Heat Index calculation may produce meaningless results for temperatures and dew points outside of the range depicted on the Heat Index Chart linked below."

The chart is here...it tops out at 108 F, so 118 is outside their range:  https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat-index

I'm 72 with one foot in the grave and the other one on an oil slick.
