For some reason, all those hoodoos made me think of those buried terra cotta soldiers over in China. What an interesting find!

Wow the gnomes are so cool!

Your burro adventure reminds me of an encounter I had with a ram. I took some pictures of his sheep and he wasnt having any of it. He charged against me and I called his bluff while preparing to be launched off into outer space. Thankfully he deflected his collision course 5 feet from me.

That's some really spectacular geology you found out there.

Fun formations! The third from last looks like huge insect jaws or pinchers coming out of the ground. I'm going to have to find a way to get to DV next winter for a month or two...or four.

Going to try to run the truck a bit more this year and then reevaluate this autumn to see what my next steps should be.

Maybe you didn't recommend it actually, but I'm about to replace the alternator with a higher capacity model (from a Suzuki Grand Vitara, LoL) and all the cables.

I'm coming in to this a bit late, but if you haven't found JeepCables / ToyotaCables for the big wire upgrades, they've been great on my 5VZ (and I still have some parts left to install). I'm assuming the Taco is similar in setup to the 4Runner 5VZ? You can get bigger diameter Toyota wire bundle clamps using Land Cruiser PNs since the stock ones are too small for bigger wires. And LMK if you want to swap in a Group 27 battery and need advice about that. Beardy probably can remember hearing alllllll about my project last winter Big Grin

The Tephora Sphinx and White Tanks rocks also look kind of like the formations up by Townes Pass in the area Gower started exploring, and I did a bit of exploring around there as well. I'd be curious to check a geology map and see if they're the same sort of rock.

Re: prospector cairns, I think the ones near what I'm referring to as "Cairn Canyon" near Tucki are of comparable size, and there's an even bigger one between Echo and Funeral Slot canyon.

I'm enjoying the TRs and photos--including the food photo--please keep them coming!

++ to the food photo. I'm always curious what people are eating when they are away from civilization.

Hey Kauri, thanks for the heads up! I actually did order all new cables from Jeep/ToyotaCables and having watched a few videos I'm sure I can get at least some of them installed. I haven't done a deep dive on my primary battery – running a Group 35 battery – and my secondary battery is a Group 31. Numbers, what do they even mean?!

Hoping once I get this wrapped up I can just focus on enjoying the truck a bit this year ... hope you're doing the same with your 4Runner!
