As per that map, it looks that the solar project will be out of the viewshed of the castle.

I guess if Airbnb had come a decade or two earlier some of those old rural brothels (I'm thinking of the one at highway 266 and US 95, Lida Junction, the former Cottontail Ranch) might have been put to other uses. "Let's rent a brothel as a party house in the middle of the desert". Yup.

I guess eventually the entire desert will be covered with solar projects and/or lithium mines.

It looks that way but I am seeing several recent wins by environmental groups that have stopped or scaled back some of these projects.
There is a massive interest to mine lithium in the Great Basin and Mojave but it's really lacking a lot of investment money. Two lithium mine sites in Nevada that looked like they were about to go into production suddenly became bogged down in environmental and social issue lawsuits...

There are solar, lithium, gold and transmission line projects on the planning boards that could impact the view shed buffers along the three paved highways leading in to and out of Death Valley. The most impacted is the Beatty area north along US 95 and west along NV 374.

Lithium is a necessary component of the rechargeable batteries that promise to reduce or eliminate fossil fuels. Lithium mining rips the sh!t out of the landscape. Is it possible to win this game?

Just for the short time I have been watching it the lithium deal has been crazy.
Not only is there lithium but I am seeing recent news on aluminum-ion that charges faster and stores better than lithium. Also sodium-ion and zinc-ion. And then there is hydrogen fuel cells that are catching on in California and they are building a hydrogen plant in Las Vegas.
Another new thing is lithium extraction that does away with open pit mines and brine ponds...
Salton Sea is key to CA's EV future, contains 1/3 of global lithium supply
And I am not sure how much of the craze is driven only by miners and investors...
Fears of a lithium supply crunch may be overblown
And not everyone is onboard with jumping into a new EV...

Scientists have cost-effectively harvested lithium from seawater
Imagine a lithium operation with cool ocean breezes, a white sandy beach and palm trees. And the crew takes lunch down the street at their favorite Tiki bar cafe. The beach or Silver Peak, Nevada. Which sounds better?
