If you click on the link above and go to the page, on the right you will see Sidewinder SOP Rev (4) and Sidewinder Map Rev (4).

Clicking on those two links will download a PDF copy of the SOP that explains the new rule and the route map. 

It appears the route is the same and they are just not dropping down through the canyon.

I just now read the announcement in the Death Valley Natural Association Newsletter. I can understand this policy decision but I found the jet activity there totally thrilling. I'm so glad to have experienced many fly overs (mostly unders) and even took my daughter and grand kids to see them and we lucked out seeing several jets zoom down Rainbow. 

This video I made in March 2015 of the jets and of the photographers at Rainbow Canyon is one of the most popular on my YT channel with over 20K views. it also includes footage given to me by a pilot who strapped a GoPro camera in the cockpit and captured what it is like to fly down the Jedi Connection.

Hey Fog, Great find and sure appreciate that link which I've never seen before. Very technical but really cool. I assume the low levels up in the Eureka Valley will still happen. I hope so because I've spent little time up there but when I return I hope to get buzzed like Kauri reported in this forum. (Or maybe it was Candace? - damn poor memory of mine.)

Yep, Eureka Valley is a great spot to see some action. I've been buzzed hard while out on the Hidden Dunes before and it was mind-boggling. I used to love that area but it's been super overrun last few years I've been out there. Thanks, Instagram.

Probably Candace, definitely not me, since I haven't been to the Eureka Valley enough (only twice so far). I've experienced some close passes by those planes, but can't remember exactly where (yes my memory is bad too!)

I recall camping at Homestake Dry camp, at the south end of Racetrack Valley, in the early 1970s. We were having a leisurely breakfast, only people in the camp, around 9am. All of a sudden, I thought my eardrums were going to split from the noise. A pair of F-4 Phantoms came blasting over the hill above Lippencott lead mine, and flying through the valley. By the time they got to the Racetrack, they were below our elevation at Homestake. The next second, they were gone. I don't think we could have gotten a picture even if we knew they were coming.

I've seen them several times at Father Crowley point, and of course a great number of times at PSR. If we were out by the runway and wave, they would sometimes circle back around for another pass. They also like to buzz us when on Trona-Wildrose rd, south of the turnoff heading into Wildrose canyon.

If you look near the intersection of Panamint Valley rd and Trona-Wildrose rd, there is a an old sign a couple hundred yards to the west of the road. The sign in the 1970s used to read "Caution, Low Flying Jets".

Love Death Valley jet stories. I was scrambling up well past the Darwin Falls trying to make it to the China Garden when some jets buzzed low. I could not see them but that sound bouncing off the canyon walls was an earth shaker. I loved it but wondered how the wild life have adapted to this? I doubt it bothers the burros. LOL 

I'll try to remember that old sign "Caution, Low Flying Jets" and snap a photo next time I'm through there. Somewhere online a few months ago I was communicating with someone about DEVA who knew you and mentioned you but now I can't locate or remember the exact context of the point. It was a fun one though. Your reputation has spread around the world.  Cool
