After numerous drives on Highway 190 from Furnace Creek to Stove Pipe Wells and Scotty's Castle Road I had never noticed until my last trip March 2022, the two graded strips taking a shortcut across the rocky flats from 190 to Scotty's Castle Road. Their length is only about a third of a mile but they could still be driven over with a jeep or even used as an emergency air strip landing zone?

Way back then someone just happened to snap a photo of you sweating it out on Highway 95 in your car. That was probably when NPS has radiator water stations along the various steep grades in Death Valley?
