Video - 2003 Two Day/One Night Trip Over Swansea-Cerro Gordo 4x4 Trail
This is my video taken during a two day, one night trip over the Swansea-Cerro Gordo 4x4 Trail. Accompanying me is historian, railroad buff, website owner John McCulloch; and Graham C., a friend who often accompanied me on ghost town and exploration trips. At the time I was living in Big Pine.

John used to have a large website on the Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad and has been featured in documentaries. At the time of this trip he was a retired and living in Las Vegas. He is driving the silver 2002 Toyota Tacoma TRD double cab 4x4 pickup. John and I had done several off road and camping trips together. John later moved to coastal Washington state and has since died in 2017, being well into his 80s.

Graham and I first met in 1999. At the time of this trip he lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. He’d often camp out behind my home in his truck and camper. He later moved to Big Pine and bought a home. When I had my website, Graham was often mentioned or pictured in my pages on my trips. I never mentioned him by his first and last name to protect his privacy as he didn’t have any published or other public presence. Graham died of cancer in 2017 at the age of 72 at a hospital in Reno after a year long battle.

On this trip I am driving my white 2002 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4 pickup. The truck still belongs to one of my grandsons and now has nearly 250,000 reliable and trouble free miles and still is a daily driver. On this trip, I had owned the truck for less than a year and a half and sharp eyes might note that I was still running the OEM P rated tires the truck came with.

The trip is broken into two videos. We camped overnight at the summit station of the Saline Valley salt tramway. John and Graham slept in the cabin, I slept in the back of my truck. The video begins at Swansea, ends at Lone Pine. We exited Cerro Gordo east to the Saline Valley road. At the end of each video is a photo slide show. Both videos combined are about an hour.
