DV to AZ 2022 winter trip
#31
Well the end is almost here.

We left the mudflats and went to the China Ranch date farm to get breakfast. Just getting out of the car and this amazing smell hit us in the face. Intoxicating perfume of creosote, dates and I dont know what else. And the songs of a hundred birds chirping about. Just amazing.

In my hunger I got a bunch of bread and muffins and two shakes.

You people did not warn me about how big the shakes were. The coffee and dates shake was something out if this world.

We went to check out the trail near the ranch that follows the Amargosa and it was really lovely and intriguing.

Colorful hills, badlands, mines, the Tecopa railroad tracks, old cars and mining cabins.

The mud made it all a bit difficult but it was cool to see all the animal tracks. Birds, coyote, bobcat... Lots of weird plants also. Desert reeds and mistletoe.

There is a slot canyon but the Amargosa had decided it after the rain that it did not like the bridge so there is that. Not wanting to test how deep in mud we would drop if we tried to wade it we turned around. Rain was not in the forecast but we could see it approaching.

We went back, got some more food at the ranch just as the storm started and we decided to start making it back home.

Going home sucked. Husband developed complications from our flu/covid and we ended up in the ER. He is almost fine now. We missed 2 atmospheric rivers while in Arizona but got hit by another 3 or 4 and could not do anyththing other than stay home. At least we didnt get flooded.

Plus I had to work, bleh.

I just want to get out there again.

The end.

Not the ending I expected, and awful to hear that bit. Hoping he heals the rest of the way as soon as possible.

Beautiful photos and thanks for sharing your trip. You packed in so much from Utah to Death Valley that I just assumed this was a multi-week adventure. Hope you & your husband get to have your next adventure sooner than later, take care.

That area around the Amargosa is interesting, isn't it? I would imagine in the mud though... pretty yucky to get off route! When I was there it was a very hot sunny day which also limited travel. I thought the date shake was worth the trip but nothing I would scream I absolutely needed - just to keep some balance here. But I was glad to have gone down in there.

Sorry to hear your husband ended up in the hospital. I forget whether you ever tested and got a positive covid result? That is NOT something I want to get while on the road, though the one time I had it, at home, it was not too bad, though debilitating for a few days for my wife.

In any event, you covered a lot of miles and saw a lot of great places, and thanks for posting the beautiful pix. Till next time!
