North entrance West Side Road
#1
Anyone have any "inside" information about the progress on the north entrance West Side Road? Arriving in less than a month(Texas Springs, RPOD) and really like starting out there in the early moring with the sun coming up and Badwater road still in the shadows!

The road report presently says:

"Northern entrance of West Side Road - Due to a deep cut in the road. No estimated reopening date."

Which usually means not anytime soon, otherwise they usually give a prediction at least a month or more out. But sometimes there are surprises!

You can always call the visitor center during open hours and ask, though whomever answers the phone isn't necessarily entirely up to date either.

I was just looking at this the other day. I'm mixed between hoping it stays closed or open. Lol. It's kinda nice when you have the time and can have Trail/Hanuapah mostly to yourself coming from the south. But Trail Canyon is also one of the last non-permited camping spots in the main part of the valley and it was nice to swing into late after a long day.

I am not thinking it will be this year. They have dates on most everything else, even if they're in 2026. Of course they could have not projected a date because it's sooner rather than later. Best bet is to call in and see what they say. It can take a few tries to get someone or leave a message and they'll call you back.

I was kind of under the impression last year that the road was GONE gone across the salt flat there and they needed to re-establish the road bed/base entirely. Which could mean an environmental study was required etc etc. And/or they're going to rebuild it with flood controls that might require more study/paperwork.
