The Call of the Gulley

On a trail in Death Valley, wide and well-known,
A man got restless, tired of the zone.
"This is too easy," he thought with a grin,
And wandered off where troubles begin.
 
Up a loose gulley, he scrambled and slipped,
His footing unsure, his confidence dipped.
Stuck in that chute, he yelled till dawn,
