Making backup plans for our upcoming trip in case SPW closes due to government shutdown, which may be coming. In the early 90s there was a shutdown when I was out and SPW was closed, as it is on NPS land (FC in on an inholding, and IIRC it stayed open, but is booked up at this point).
Anyway, I'm considering Beatty. From what I have heard, Atomic Inn is where folks in the know stay. Any comments on it or other lodging? How about food? When I stayed there 35 years ago there was mediocre casino food and not much else, but maybe the increase in tourism and caused some better places to crop up?
Thanks for any suggestions.

We stay in Beatty often. I've stayed at pretty much every spot and honestly, for the money you can't beat the good ole Motel 6. For food we love Smoking Js for BBQ. Gema's is also great. If it's late and you're staying at the Motel 6 anyway, the casino has a Denny's. Nothing special, but Denny's is Denny's.
I sure hope there isn't a shutdown. We are headed to Monterey, staying on base next to the golf course. They don't know if they will stay open or not. It's too late to make back up plans so we may be homeless in CA for a week.

Longstreet, south of Death Valley Junction? I ate there once in 1999, for all it's worth ...

And then there's Pahrump.

The Angel's Ladies is an option, just a little pricey.

This is how every trip I've taken to DEVA over the past decade has concluded with a "happy ending."

I hope my dark dry-humor doesn't rub you all the wrong way.
