Great find Desert Fog. I hope that these are digitized somewhere or that one of our forum members makes the purchase. At my current state of life I'm trying to get rid of material that I've collected over the years rather than adding to it.  Big Grin

It appears that a lot of people are getting rid of things they don't use as another vintage map of Death Valley appeared on eBay.  Here is the one that was posted the other day followed by the one posted today...

1930s Death Valley Map

1950s Death Valley Map

The maps appear to be from the same plate but in the 1950s version Roses Well was changed to Lathrop Well, Mercury, Nevada appears on the map, and the Death Valley View Hotel is dropped from the map. There are a few other changes as well. If you just have to have this map you can get it here...

Here is a mid 1930s map that I got for a Mojave project but you can download a scanned PDF copy for free!

Is there a particular historic map of Death Valley that is anyone's favorite? I've collected a few "okay" ones over the years, but nothing I was ever enamored enough with to have framed up properly. I'd love to have something hanging on the wall in tribute to my favorite place.

I had the 2005 edition of Tom Harrison's Death Valley map hanging on my wall for several years and it was handy for trip plans...

I also had his Mojave National Preserve and Joshua Tree National Park maps on the same wall so it covered a huge section of the Mojave from north to south.

Nice. Found a few historic ones on the USGS site – https://store.usgs.gov/filter-products?c...h%20valley

And on Etsy saw a couple of these same maps, printed in different eras. Neat stuff.

Eventually I need to go through our boxes of old maps. I think we have some DV maps from the 1960s that my grandpa had, also NPS guides for Charcoal Kilns etc., and a take-out menu from the SPW dining room from about 25 years ago. Neat stuff!

Wow Kauri, I'm envious of your family heritage associated with Death Valley. I hope you'll be able to share some digital copies of some of these family treasures.

Has the SPW dining room menu changed?  Huh

Sure, I can post photos/scans of whatever I have, once I find the collection.

And, yes, the SPW dining room menu has changed quite a few times since then (the prices have also changed too...).

I'm the same: trying to avoid accumulating physical items!  OTOH, especially when talking about maps, it's nice to have physical maps for trip planning (or just daydreaming) and off-the-grid use.

Thank you for this!

Has anyone here visited Borosolvay, CA?   Big Grin  (It's shown on that map, just south of Trona)

Apparently, back then, you could freely roam throughout what are now the China Lake, Fort Irwin, and Twentynine Palms military reservations. Cool

I wasn't even aware of Borosolvay.  A road on that map I thought was interesting is the 45 mile road that heads north from Twentynine Palms to Bagdad. But that's military territory now.

Here is a 1930s Death Valley map...
