Somewhere in this forum we recently discussed the erosion happening between Highway 190 and upper Gower Gulch next to the Zabriskie Point parking lot. Mojave Geek brought this topic up if I remember correctly. During my recent DEVA trip 2-28 to 3-8-2022 I stopped by the location and created this video study of the area.
In 1941 stream flow down The Furnace Creek Wash was diverted into The Gower Gulch to prevent frequent damaging flooding downstream a few miles to The Death Valley Inn (renamed to The Inn at Death Valley) and to washouts of Highway 190. This March 2022 video is a review of the erosion prevention works and new flood paths through Gower Gulch to its mouth emptying into the Death Valley floor.
