Salt Creek

So I'm not surprised that the Salt Creek road is still marked "closed" but I clicked on the map and it says that the boardwalk was destroyed in the flooding.   Wow.  If someone is out there and drives by, could you check whether the closure is simply reflected in the "road closed" gate being shut, or if there is some stronger language to keep people out?  I was thinking of doing the car shuttle walk from the picnic area north to 190 via boardwalk, social trail, and old road, but if the whole area is closed I'll figure out a plan B.

The gate is closed.

In later October, a couple who comes when I do every year, did hike in from 190, going west. Not exactly sure where they parked. Somewhere north of the gate. They said everything was changed, boardwalk destroyed. The toilet was still standing but not on it's "hole".

I didn't stop to see is there is any other signs. I know that bikes are not allowed on closed roads. I did park north of gate a ways and was going to hike in but turned around after awhile as was unsure of route.. Also thought of parking by the gate and walking down the road but thought that might too obvious. I'm thinking it might be allowed to walk in. Maybe this late March I'll try it aqain as it's cooler then late October. Earlyin the morning.

OMG, I hope the pupfish survived the washout? They've lived in Salt Creek for ages so I hope they know how to survive these cyclical flood events!

Thanks Jes. There have been plenty of times when I've walked in on a "closed" road, but this sounds a bit more catastrophic. There are several vestigial roads in there, so I guess I'd make some waypoints based on the satellite images and just wander.

DVD, last time I was there a ranger said that all the pupfish you see around the picnic area are doomed anyway, as the creek dries up The survivors live in some of the deeper pools upstream. I really like that area, with the pools reflecting Tucki mountain, long reeds, and usually ducks of some form - would like to walk through that area if I can access it.

I drove by the gate several times last week, and there were cars parked there each time. I'm not sure if walking in is allowed, but people are apparently doing it.
