This may surprise forum members but our very own GowerGulch42 is Death Valley's first official rock pick'n geologist. Proof is found in this vintage footage where he escaped treacherous conditions to locate a substantial water source eventually channeled to The Oasis. If I ever get lucky enough to personally meet GowerGulch42 I'm scoring his autograph now that he's famous.  Big Grin

What was the obsession with quicksand back in the day? Movies and TV made it seem like it was everywhere.

When I was a kid quicksand seemed rather magical, and I was so excited as an adult to head into places in Utah where it was found. But, meh, except for the one time when I got pretty well covered in thick black mud.
