I never log out explicitly. I get logged out when I close the browser tab or the browser. I see that error, but it is still on a forum page. If I then click on the "Death Valley" link which takes me to the forum messages, I'm fine. So two issues, probably related. 1) not being recognized by however the forum is supposed to recognize me when I open the site (cookie I imagine?) 2) false error message when I then actually do log in.
I should probably try it on other browsers and other OS's

Same OS, Firefox, everything works as before. No login error, and once logged in I can close the tab, and when I go back to the site I am remembered.
Chrome says: Version 109.0.5414.120 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Since I was unable to update to Win 10 on this computer, Chrome tells me that it is orphaned due to "OS ageism"

You're saying the problem only reproduces with an out-dated Chrome browser (109 is from November 2022) ?

I have seen this problem for about 24 hours so I have not tested elsewhere. My Chrome may be outdated but it has worked fine with the forum since whenever it last updated, which sounds like a year ago. It is easy enough for me to log in again - Chrome also remembers my ID and password - but I was wondering if perhaps something else had changed in the not too distant past which was also related to Jes's problem. No biggie.

Hey, got back from DV Sunday after nine nights.
I think it is related to my updated Safari 17.0
When I visit this site I am seen as a visitor. I have to click on register and I get the the message that I am alrready reqistered but then I am logged in. I never log out but have to keep doing this.
The login in link doesn't remember me.

The last change to the forum software itself was back on May 26.
I'm unable to reproduce this. I fired up a fresh Chrome profile, logged in, closed Chrome entirely, ran it again, and I was still logged in. I browsed around the forum for a bit, but never ran into any issues, and remained logged in the entire time. I also tried logging out, then logging in again, restarting Chrome, and still remained logged in the entire time.
However, I've got Chrome-119, and I'm not running Windows. My best guess is that its some sort of Chrome bug, that maybe has since been fixed? I'm not sure what else to suggest, since I can't reproduce the problem.
Sorry.

Are you able to test with a different browser to confirm that the issue only reproduces with Safari?
What happens when you try using the login link?
I'm afraid that I don't have any way of running Safari locally to test this (I don't have any Apple hardware, or Windows).
