I'm humbled to be amongst such a well traveled group who have so much life experience, wisdom and the coolest vintage/current photos to share. While hiking in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park north of Sydney three years ago I missed getting tackled or tromped by a large roo bounding 90 degrees across the trail arm's length in front of me. He seemed oblivious to me but I was sure glad to barely miss that hit and run (hop).

Speaking of donkeys and burros, Beatty, NV seems to have embraced them wandering around town en mass, even using them as a cute marketing tool. I've got mixed feelings about this, but what do I know? Not much.

Times are tough. They're willing to try anything to get tourist dollars.

I passed through Beatty recently and noticed there were more burros than usual in and around town.

As for Oz, I certainly wasn't implying roos and other wildlife are never active during the day! They were a nuisance even during daytime hours when I drove through the Flinders Ranges in 2018. There didn't seem to be quite as many there when I passed through the same area in 2019.

Regarding the burros in Beatty, apparently someone is feeding and/or watering them!  That pic was taken on September 19, right in town. 

The second pic was taken north of town on September 23.  That is by no means all the burros that were hanging around that area, either.

During a stay at The Death Valley Inn a few years ago a burro walked right down the sidewalk in front of the level one rooms. If a door hotel room door had been left open I bet the burro would have made itself right at home inside. LOL

2.  When I passed through Beatty again the other day, there were three burros right outside the Sourdough Saloon, near the tables.  I suspect some of the patrons were giving them attention (or possibly food)!
