Snow in Racetrack Valley? Isn't that quite a low elevation? The Death Valley park info page says snow at or above 4000 ft...surely Racetrack Valley is much lower than that?

I don't think I've ever been in Death Valley  -- the actually valley part, not up above in Wildrose Canyon or the Panamints -- when it was raining.

According to Google Earth, the Racetrack Playa is approximately 3,715'. The road to Death Valley flirts with 5,000 for a considerable distance.

Oh something super cool we saw few years ago after a storm: the flats at panamint valley became a shallow lake and had little saltwater shrimp swimming around. It was so incredible.

I talked with a ranger yesterday who said that they won’t preemptively close Racetrack Rd but if they get a report that it’s bad they will. So nobody report anything!!

So I have to decide if I’m going to go for it just to see what it’s like or wait for better weather. But with this cold front sticking around you’re looking at highs around freezing and lows in the teens up there. Ugh.

I've been at The Racetrack with a foot of snow on the playa, and even more than that up in Hidden Valley.

I camped Eureka in the snow. The dunes covered in snow were gorgeous.

Never the Racetrack tho.
